Job Summary:

UMSI is seeking an undergraduate research assistant in Artificial Intelligence for community economic development. This position will report to Dr. Ron Eglash, Professor of Information, at UMSI. You will be part of a rapid development team conducting research on developing server-side applications for Detroit’s minority-owned urban farms, fabrication shops and other artisanal enterprises. You will use Git, Javascript, Next.js, and support from an agentic AI programming assistant (cursor.com).

Job Requirements
  • Interest in social justice and its relation to community technology development

  • Experience with Next.js, Docker, and Git

  • Additional knowledge in UX, GIS, LLM-based coding tools, SEO (search engine optimization), and PWAs (progressive web applications) is highly desirable.
