Job Description

The University of Michigan Sexual Assault Prevention & Awareness Center (SAPAC) has an opening for a Community Engagement Coordinator position, available for graduate students currently enrolled at U-M to apply. The individual in this role will primarily support the operations of the Raise the Bar program, a bystander intervention program designed for local establishments (bars, restaurants, coffee shops, etc) to engage in knowledge acquisition, dialogue, and skill-building workshops. The start date for this position is August 18th, 2025 with onboarding during the end of July.  

 

In addition to coordinating Raise the Bar, the individual in this position may also provide SAPAC’s Responding to Disclosures of Sexual Misconduct workshop for undergraduate and graduate students who submit requests. In this workshop, participants gain a comprehensive overview of services and resources that SAPAC offers to survivors and their allies. Participants also learn about the neurobiology of trauma, common reactions to sexual violence and trauma and how to support a survivor and connect them to resources after a disclosure has occurred. 

 

The individual in this position will also assist with SAPAC’s Restorative Circles program, in which SAPAC provides facilitated conversations utilizing the restorative practice of circles. During this time, facilitator(s) utilize circles as an educational and healing tool to address collective harm that has been caused by sexual misconduct within a community.

Job Requirements

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Raise the Bar 50%

 

  • Deliver two-hour workshops for Raise the Bar participants with the assistance of Raise the Bar volunteers

  • Record training modules for Raise the Bar for virtual training opportunities

  • Train and oversee volunteers in their role within Raise the Bar 

  • Recruit and retain businesses’ involvement with the program

  • Maintain relationships and conduct new workshops for establishments we have existing relationships with 

  • Distribute, analyze, and assess evaluation to participating bar establishments 

  • Distribute promotional, certificates, and other project materials to businesses that successfully complete the first stage of the program 

  • Promote Raise the Bar on campus and to the community by attending monthly Ann Arbor Campus Community Coalition (A2C3) meetings

  • Provide consultation to interested external organizations about Raise The Bar

 

SAPAC Services and Responding to Disclosures Workshops 25%

 

  • Respond to undergraduate and graduate students who request learning about SAPAC Services and Responding to Disclosure workshops through our website/email

  • Meet with individuals requesting workshops once prior to workshop to learn more about their specific community dynamics and needs in order to develop specific scenarios for their workshop

  • Deliver 90-minute workshops

  • Track workshop information in SAPAC’s database

  • Adjust workshop content as needed

  • Assist with programmatic assessment efforts

 

Restorative Circles 25%

 

 

  • Provide support to SAPAC’s Restorative Circles program by assisting Jacqulyn Hippe with community requests for circles

  • Facilitate small group circles by providing a space for individuals to process sexual misconduct harm that has happened within their specific community, as well as take notes to collect themes

  • Attend Circle training  

  • Assist with programmatic assessment efforts

Required Qualifications: 

 

 

Enrolled as a U-M graduate student in Public Health, Social Work, Higher Education, or other fields related to prevention education, social justice, etc.

Experience with prevention education, restorative practices, public speaking, and/or community organizing

Strong interpersonal and emotional skills -- ability to positively liaise with students and staff in a high-volume, fast-paced program

 

 


  • Experience and/or knowledge in alcohol and other drug harm prevention strategies, sexual violence prevention, bystander intervention, and diversity and inclusion programming

  • Experience working in alcohol-serving establishments 

  • Knowledge of educational practices related to healthy relationships, sexual health, and sexual violence prevention

  • Experience in working within community-based collaborations 

  • Experience coordinating student programming volunteers

  • Experience adapting to changing environments

  • High capacity for independent and group work

  • Highly organized -- able to promptly and courteously respond to emails; able to manage multiple program details

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and experience 

  • Highly comfortable with public speaking for various audiences

  • Self-motivated, reliable, responsible individual that is able to take direction and work independently

  • Must have a flexible work schedule; some evenings and weekends may be required.
