Job Description |
The Kelsey Museum of Archaeology is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated undergraduate students to join our team as Museum Education Assistants. This role will focus primarily on supporting K-12 educational tours and activities within the museum galleries, but will also include participation in community outreach. This is a fantastic opportunity for students passionate about museums, museum education, archaeology, the classics, and ancient history to gain hands-on experience in a museum setting. - Assist the K-12 Museum Educator in preparing for K-12 tours and educational programs.
- Lead or co-lead engaging tours and educational sessions for school groups, with a focus on interactivity and designated learning goals.
- Support K-12 students and teachers during visits, providing information, guidance, and answering questions about exhibits and the Museum.
- Help create and organize educational materials, activities, and resources for school tours.
- Ensure a welcoming and inclusive environment for all museum school groups.
- Assist with setup and cleanup for educational K-12 tours and activities.
- Participate in paid training sessions to gain deeper knowledge of museum exhibits and effective educational strategies.

Job Requirements |
- Currently enrolled as an undergraduate at UM, Ann Arbor, preferably with a major/minor in Museum Studies, Classics, Education, Anthropology, Art History, History, Middle East Studies, or related fields.
- Strong interest in museum work and educational outreach.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to engage with children and young learners effectively.
- Dependable, punctual, and responsible; able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Schedule to accommodate K-12 school tours, which occur during weekdays, Tuesday-Friday, 10am-3pm. We will schedule you in blocks of 9am-12pm and 12pm-3pm. To work at the Museum, you must have 3-hour blocks of time available between 9 am and 3 pm on at least two weekdays. Most shifts will be in the morning; that’s when most schools take field trips!
- Previous experience working with children or in educational settings is a plus.
- You must attend paid training the week of Aug 18, 2025, with a start date of the first day of school for the fall 2025 semester, August 25, 2025.
