Job Description

Spring / Summer semester

 

The Computer & Video Game Archive (CVGA) is seeking three Student Assistants for the Summer 2025 term to support the daily operations of the archive from May 6 - August 12, 2025.  Here are the hours of operation:  

12:00pm - 4:00pm Monday - Wednesday
12:00pm - 6:00pm Thursday 
12:00pm - 4:00pm Friday

 

This position provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a wide range of video games, consoles, and library services in a dynamic and engaging environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent customer service by assisting visitors with inquiries and circulating games.
  • Test and maintain donated games and equipment to ensure functionality and preservation.
  • Tech support and troubleshoot older game systems and equipment as needed.
  • Provide support during class sessions held in the CVGA, including setup and troubleshooting.
Educational Value

This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in an academic library setting, specifically within a special collection. You will:

Learn the inner workings of a library special collection
Develop skills in restoring both modern and vintage computers and consoles
Enhance your knowledge of the video game and media industry
Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to support and articulate the CVGA’s mission.
  • Ability to communicate with larger groups, such as during tours.
  • Attention to detail.
Hourly Rate $16.00/hour
Hours 8.0 to 15.0 hours per week
