Job Description

The Michigan Institute for Data and AI in Society (MIDAS) is seeking two Student Training Assistants (temporary, hourly position) for our Data- and AI-Intensive Research with Rigor and Reproducibility program. This is a nationwide training program to strengthen research skills for biomedical researchers (faculty and staff scientists as well as advanced graduate students and postdocs). The students will work under the supervision of Jing Liu (MIDAS Executive Director) and Kelly Psilidis (MIDAS Faculty Training Program Manager), to support the faculty instructors in the training program.

Responsibilities:

Assist faculty instructors during the development of instructional materials, including developing lab sessions and projects, assembling instructional materials for multiple components into an entire unit; and developing and grading homework assignments.

Familiarize themselves with instructional materials in all units.

Provide support for lab sessions, office hours, and projects before and possibly during training sessions with potential travel at Jackson State University (Monday, May 12 - Saturday, May 17, 2025) and the University of Texas San Antonio (Monday, June 16 - Saturday, June 21, 2025).

Job Requirements

Graduate students especially Ph.D. students with a background in data science, computer science and / or statistics;

Strong computer science skills, including experience with R, Python, Github, Docker, and other common platforms;

Research and / or teaching assistance experience highly desired;

Great organizational skills, attention to details, and strong work ethic;

Good communication skills (oral and written);

Being able to work independently when given clear instructions.

Note: This position requires working up to 40 hours per week during targeted weeks of the summer. We welcome candidates with flexible schedules who are not enrolled in any summer classes.
