Primary responsibilities: - Developing, researching and writing stories, blog posts and news announcements for distribution directly to the public, social media audiences and to news media.
- Responding quickly to inquiries from reporters, locating expert sources and arranging interviews.
- Arranging, planning and directing visits of media, photographers, TV crews, including accompanying them in all Michigan Medicine facilities, protecting patient privacy.
- Working closely with Department of Communication team to plan and create videos, photo galleries or podcasts.
- Develop content for social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn to share stories about University of Michigan Health clinical care, research and educational efforts that build and spread engagement with patients, families and others seeking expert and authoritative health information.
- Preparing faculty and staff for media interviews.
Job details: - Work to be performed partially on site at the Department of Communication and part remotely. Candidate must be able to be on site in Ann Arbor as needed.

- This job reports to the Public Relations Manager.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Open to currently enrolled college students. Communication, social media strategy background preferred. Writing samples required. Experience with brand management, public relations or journalism is a plus. Must be comfortable in a multi-layered organization with complex reporting relationships.
