Job Description

The Electric Vehicle Center (EVC) is hiring a student to work on technical projects advancing the field of experiential education of electric vehicles. As an EVC research assistant, the student will engage in hands-on projects that deepen their understanding of electric vehicle systems, battery technologies, manufacturing processes, and safety practices. Responsibilities include researching and developing content based on faculty guidance, implementing hardware and software solutions, and creating training materials and manuals that document system functionality. The position is for approximately 10-30 hours in Spring/Summer of 2025 and 10-20 hours in Fall 2025, with the possibility to extend the position depending on project needs.

Educational Value

Job Requirements

You will have: 

  • Coursework in electric vehicle systems, motor and drives, embedded systems, battery technology, or sustainable transportation and/or a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or other related field
  • Experience creating educational content or technical writing
  • Experience deploying algorithms from a Matlab Simulink environment to a rapid prototyping vehicle control unit (NXP semiconductor MPC5775) and software debugging experience
  • Solid organizational skills, including attention to detail, iterative development, and project tracking
  • Comprehensive written and verbal skills
  • Resourcefulness and strong interpersonal skills
  • Interest in the development and delivery of educational content, particularly in the field of electric vehicle and battery technology

 

Hourly Rate $17.00/hour to $22.00/hour
Hours 10.0 to 29.0 hours per week
