Job Summary:

This role supports the coordination and programming of the Community Technology Workers (CTW) initiative, a community-based program providing no-cost digital support to Afghan refugees in Ann Arbor. The position involves weekly check-ins with CTWs, supporting program design and logistics, maintaining outreach and activity tracking tools, and helping sustain program momentum. The student will work closely with the faculty lead and CTWs, with occasional community engagement.

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the weekly coordination and check-ins with CTWs

  • Helping design and implement programming that CTWs can work on

  • Tracking CTW activities (e.g., maintaining Google Forms, documentation, outreach materials)

  • Assisting with logistical follow-through (e.g., flyers, outreach, workshop planning)

  • Doing light forward-planning to help keep momentum and sustained engagement in the program

  • Occasionally supporting light community engagement, but primarily working behind the scenes

Educational Value

Students in this role will gain hands-on experience supporting a community-based digital inclusion program, developing skills in program coordination, communication, and logistical planning. They will strengthen their ability to manage documentation and outreach across multiple platforms (e.g., Google Workspace, Canva), while learning how to maintain momentum in ongoing initiatives. The role also offers experience in culturally sensitive communication and behind-the-scenes support for workshops and community engagement—valuable for students interested in social impact, public interest technology, nonprofit work, or community organizing.

Job Requirements
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks

  • Dependable and proactive, with a willingness to follow through on assignments

  • Interest in working on community-based programs and comfort collaborating with others

  • Clear and respectful communicator

  • Familiarity with Google Workspace tools (Docs, Sheets, Forms)
