Audio Assistant at the Digital Media Commons (Duderstadt Center)

The Digital Media Commons (DMC) is hiring Audio Assistants for Fall 2025 to work in our state-of-the-art DMC Audio Studios in the James and Anne Duderstadt Center on North Campus. 

Audio Assistants are skilled student staff who perform the majority of Audio Studio training for the U-M community. Additional duties include assisting DMC staff in media creation and event production for both the Audio Studios and the Video Studio. Tasks may include audio recording, mixing, studio maintenance, troubleshooting studio errors, and providing consultation and support to studio sessions.

The Audio Assistant position is a unique opportunity to work with high-quality, industry-standard audio technology in a collaborative, creative, student-centered environment. Ideal candidates are passionate about learning and teaching audio production skills and supporting audio recording sessions.

The Audio Assistant position provides valuable real world experience working in a production environment with clients. Students are able to leverage the skills learned in class on various projects. As student trainers, they gain leadership skills by providing teaching and learning opportunities to other students. 

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Certification in Audio Studio C and the Multimedia Rooms in the Duderstadt Center
  • Knowledge of Digital Audio Workstations (Pro Tools, Ableton, Logic, Reaper, etc)
  • Experience working collaboratively
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Reliability, punctuality, attention to detail, and safety-consciousness
  • Ability to carry out tasks from beginning to end
  • Enthusiasm about learning new skills

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Certification in Audio Studios A and B
  • Ability to read music
Hourly Rate $16.00/hour
Hours 10.0 to 20.0 hours per week
