Latine Heritage Month (LHM) Student Coordinator
Roles and Responsibilities

The Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs (MESA) and La Casa are seeking a passionate, organized, and detail-oriented Latine Heritage Month (LHM) Student Coordinator to help lead and manage logistics for Fall 2025 LHM programming. This is a unique opportunity to play a vital role in celebrating Latine culture, history, and contributions across campus and beyond.

Position Summary

The LHM Student Coordinator will lead the planning and coordination of Latine Heritage Month, a campus-wide celebration involving a series of dynamic events that highlight the richness of Latine culture, identities, and experiences. This position is both administrative and collaborative, involving event logistics, leadership, committee coordination, and outreach.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the coordination of all aspects of LHM programming and logistics.

  • Help recruit students, staff, faculty, and community members to join the LHM planning committee (including identifying a student graphic designer).

  • Help schedule and reserve space for committee meetings, beginning in early July.

  • Lead planning committee meetings, including:

    • Creating agendas

    • Facilitating discussions

    • Taking and distributing meeting minutes

  • Assist with the setup, implementation, and cleanup of LHM events and programs.

  • Collaborate on outreach and marketing efforts:

    • Connect with student organizations and local community partners

    • Create and share promotional materials

  • Identify event-related purchases in collaboration with the MESA Program Manager, ensuring adherence to budget guidelines.

  • Serve as a liaison between the MESA Program Manager and sub-committee chairs to ensure timely progress and smooth coordination.

  • Assist with other duties as assigned by MESA Program Manager.

Job Requirements

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be:

  • A currently enrolled undergraduate student at the University of Michigan

  • Self-directed and motivated

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, reliable, and accountable

  • Passionate about cultural celebration, community engagement, and learning

  • Comfortable leading meetings and collaborating with multiple stakeholders

  • Able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines independently and within a team

  • Exercise strong interpersonal skills – the ability to represent LHM and maintain timely communications with stakeholders and to communicate effectively with MESA staff advisor and other constituents

  • A resume is required for the position

Availability Requirements:
Must be available for weekly committee meetings, evening events, and occasional weekends between early June and mid-October.

Hourly Rate $15.00/hour
Hours 5.0 to 15.0 hours per week
