Job Description

AI Inside and Out is a summer camp designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of artificial intelligence through interactive activities and hands-on experiences. Camp Counselors play a key role in creating a smooth, supportive, and engaging experience for all participants. No prior knowledge of AI or engineering is required.

Counselor Work Dates
Camp Counselors will only be scheduled to work within the following dates:

  • Counselor Training: June 16–17
  • Session 1: June 23–27
  • Session 2: July 7–11 (tentative; not yet confirmed)
  • Session 3: July 28–August 1

Key Responsibilities

  • Escort students between scheduled on-campus activities and ensure timely arrival.
  • Assist in maintaining the daily schedule and transitions between sessions.
  • Distribute and organize materials and supplies for activities.
  • Provide general supervision and promote a safe, inclusive environment.
  • Answer common logistical questions (e.g., bathroom locations, lunch plans).
  • Support instructors and staff with light setup and cleanup.
  • Observe student engagement and report concerns to camp leadership.
  • Help enforce camp policies and contribute to a welcoming atmosphere.
Educational Value

Job Requirements
  • Currently enrolled at the University of Michigan as a second year student or above. 
  • Must be able to navigate U-M’s North Campus.
  • Responsible, reliable, and punctual.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to supervise and engage with students in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and adapting to schedule changes.
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods and move between locations as needed.
  • Must pass a background check in accordance with university policies for working with minors.
  • Prior experience working with youth (e.g., tutoring, mentoring, camp counseling) is a plus but not required.
  • CPR, AED, and/or First Aid Certification is a plus but not required.
Hourly Rate $16.00/hour to $20.00/hour
Hours 25.0 to 29.0 hours per week
