Job Description

Foundation F.C., the newest youth soccer club in Ann Arbor, is seeking coaches for its youth soccer teams, known as the Fyrd, which play in the Western Suburban Soccer League (WSSL). Successful coaching candidates will have extensive soccer experience, in-depth knowledge of the game, and the ability to teach young people the game of soccer in an engaging way. Responsibilities will be to plan and lead one 1-1/2 hour practice each week during the season, and coach one game each week, which will be played in Ann Arbor or a nearby community. Practices will start in late August, and games will be played on the weekends in September and October. Coaching candidates do not need to commit to more than one season, but there are likely to be opportunities to coach teams during the winter indoor season and the spring outdoor season as well. No particular educational or professional background is necessary. Pay is commensurate with experience, and hiring is contingent on the ability to pass WSSL’s background check. Foundation F.C. is a soccer club that believes in competition without specialization. All the kids in the club enjoy soccer, but they also play other sports and participate in other activities. Foundation wants to teach its players to be excellent soccer players, but also kind, well-rounded, and happy people. The coaches will play an important role in all those efforts.

Educational Value

Foundation coaches will teach, motivate, and lead a team of young people who are passionate about soccer and want to learn the game. Coaches will be role models and teachers to the kids on the team, all of whom live in Ann Arbor and know each other from school or the nearby area. Foundation F.C. is a community of families who know and like each other, and coaches will become a part of that community. Coaches will also get experience being part of a start-up organization, and will have influence over the direction of the club, not just the team.

Job Requirements

Successful coaching candidates will have extensive soccer experience, in-depth knowledge of the game, and the ability to teach young people the game of soccer in an engaging way. No particular educational or professional background is necessary.
