Job Description

The Leaders in Environmental Health Science and Diversity (LEAD) Program is seeking (1) Graduate Residential Assistant to support undergraduate summer interns, facilitate programming, and to build meaningful relationships. The LEAD Summer Research Experience is an 8-week program (May 31, 2025 to July 26, 2025). The main responsibilities of the Graduate Student Assistant are to support the academic success of LEAD scholars by creating and maintaining an inclusive, safe, and supportive environment within the School of Public Health. The Graduate Student Assistant will also serve as a guide to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and surrounding communities. Through support and community building activities, the Graduate Student Assistant will assist students to have a successful transition from their home institutions. In addition, the student will assist with logistical support for the program. This position requires providing support and guidance for 6 undergraduate students over the course of 8-weeks and advance work preparing for their arrival beforehand. The Graduate Student Assistant will report to Dr. Simone Charles (primary supervisor) and Dr. Marie O’Neill (secondary supervisor).

Educational Value

Candidate will learn skills necessary to supporting a program, and hone already existant organizational skills.  

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
     
  • Be a full-time graduate or professional student at The University of Michigan Ann Arbor in good academic standing.
     
  • Be willing to work evenings, nights, and weekends throughout the duration of the program as needed.
     
  • Exhibit strong writing skills
     
  • Exhibit strong leadership and organizational skills.
     
  • Be committed to advancing the academic success of undergraduate students through fellowship, mentorship, and community building.
     
  • Have experience working with students from various backgrounds.
     
  • Possess critical thinking, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills
     
  • Have experience planning and hosting events.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Be a masters or doctoral student in the School of Public Health, The School for Environment and Sustainability, or STEM-related fields.
     
  • Have experience teaching or working with undergraduate students.
     
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and related Google applications.
     
  • Be able to demonstrate campus and/or community involvement.
     
  • Possess extensive knowledge of The University of Michigan Campus and Resources.
Hourly Rate $18.00/hour to $20.00/hour
Hours 20.0 to 25.0 hours per week
