Job Description

The Biosciences Group at the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI) is seeking 4-8 reliable, motivated, and detail-oriented Student Research Assistants to join our dynamic team for Spring and Summer 2025.  

These temporary positions offer an exciting opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience under the guidance of our esteemed faculty and researchers. Ideal candidates will possess a strong enthusiasm for learning and commitment to contributing to the advancement of our research projects. 

The Student Research Assistants will work onsite approximately 20-40 hours per week. The typical work day is 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with the possibility of some evenings and/or weekends, as needed. Some flexibility of the work schedule may be considered upon successful completion of the initial training period, and once the research assistant has demonstrated the ability to effectively manage the responsibilities of the role.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, data processing and landmarking 3D external body shape data, segmentation and landmarking of medical image data (CT scans), assisting with human subject testing, and processing or entering test data.  Research Assistants may also assist in setting up, calibrating, maintaining laboratory equipment and/or fabricating test devices.

Job Requirements
  • Experience with Google applications, Microsoft Office, some experience with 3D geometry is preferred, but not required.

  • Ability to perform job tasks safely. This includes but is not limited to routinely moving equipment weighing up to 40 pounds from one area to another for various study needs, constantly positioning self to interact with study participants and move throughout the building, operating for use in study and inspecting equipment for safety, remaining in a stationary position (1-hour increments).

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work efficiently and manage time effectively.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.

  • Attention to detail, and a high level of accuracy is essential.

Hourly Rate $16.00/hour to $18.00/hour
