The Leaders in Environmental Health Science and Diversity (LEAD) Program is seeking (1) Graduate Residential Assistant to support undergraduate summer interns, facilitate programming, and to build meaningful relationships. The LEAD Summer Research Experience is an 8-week program (May 31, 2025 to July 26, 2025). The main responsibilities of the Graduate Student Assistant are to support the academic success of LEAD scholars by creating and maintaining an inclusive, safe, and supportive environment within the School of Public Health. The Graduate Student Assistant will also serve as a guide to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and surrounding communities. Through support and community building activities, the Graduate Student Assistant will assist students to have a successful transition from their home institutions. In addition, the student will assist with logistical support for the program. This position requires providing support and guidance for 6 undergraduate students over the course of 8-weeks and advance work preparing for their arrival beforehand. The Graduate Student Assistant will report to Dr. Simone Charles (primary supervisor) and Dr. Marie O’Neill (secondary supervisor). Responsibilities: - Assist with the daily tasks as needed by the LEAD Summer Research Program.
- Maintain timely communication with LEAD scholars, faculty, and staff.
- Support and mentor LEAD scholars
- Create and implement programs and enrichment activities for LEAD students that facilitate community building and professional development (including weekend activities and Wellness Wednesday activities).
- Lead seminars, workshops, and host program events as needed.
- Review Canvas site materials submitted by scholars.
- Support student writing needs (e.g., review writing artifacts and make suggestions for improvements)
- Notify the appropriate LEAD faculty, staff, or appropriate university personnel of any student issues, crises, or conflicts.
- Support LEAD scholars with information, guidance, or materials needed for personal and academic success.
- Exhibit professionalism and maintain boundaries while building and maintaining meaningful relationships with LEAD scholars, faculty, and staff.
- Connect students with resources on campus and share how to access them.
- Assist students with getting around campus (directions and advice).
- Give tours of campus and facilities to students.
- Share knowledge about Ann Arbor and surrounding areas.
- Attend meetings with LEAD Program faculty and staff throughout the week.
