Job Description

The EXCEL Lab is housed within the Department of Entrepreneurship & Leadership in the School of Music, Theatre, & Dance. EXCEL is SMTD's home base for performing arts entrepreneurship, leadership, and career services. We take a personalized, collaborative approach to professional development by first exploring students’ individual visions and goals, and then connecting them with the resources they need to thrive. Whether seeking out a new career pathway or honing in on a competitive edge, EXCEL offers comprehensive access to skill-building, mentorship, and funding to help make student dreams a reality. 

 

This position will be responsible for creating and editing video and visual content that tells a unique story that supports the goals and mission of the EXCEL Lab. This position will support marketing and content needs via various channels including EXCEL newsletter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and the EXCEL Log (blog).

 

This position will also support and participate in EXCEL programming as able, including but not limited to in-person and asynchronous events, experiential learning programs, learning resource maintenance & development.

 

 

Primary Responsibilities include: 

  • Content Creation 

    • Conduct video interviews with students, staff, and special guests, including scheduling, reserving space and equipment, content planning, and communications 

    • Creating video content such as reels, interviews, event recaps, etc…

      • Capture b-roll footage and photographs during events and workshops such as the EXCELebration, Arts Career Fair, Welcome Back Carnival, etc.. 

      • Edit together short videos using footage and photos taken

    • Co-create and adhere to a regular social media posting schedule in collaboration with the Program Coordinator and student team members.

    • Plan and distribute engaging content that aligns with the goals and mission of the EXCEL Lab. 

    • Communicate regularly with SMTD communications & marketing team to adhere to University and SMTD policies and strategies.

    • Monitor and adhere to accessibility guidelines of marketing materials and digital content.

    • Review analytics across platforms to assess and optimize posting strategy.

 

Additional Responsibilities may include:

  • Support EXCEL staff in promoting EXCEL Lab programs beyond original created content; 

    • Augment online marketing of EXCEL workshops/events and student opportunities such as funding programs, internships, and immersions

  • Support the EXCEL staff programming as available; 

    • Attend and provide general administrative and logistical support for events and workshops, including the Welcome Back Carnival, Arts Career Fair, EXCELebration, etc.

    • Assist full time staff with set up and take down, checking in students, and serving as an ambassador for the EXCEL Lab

  • Content Accessibility through adopting updated accessibility guidelines and representing diverse community voices.

  • Professionalism through understanding and demonstrating effective work habits as per the position description, and acting with integrity in the interest of the EXCEL and SMTD community and workplace. 

Job Requirements
  • Enthusiasm for arts leadership, arts entrepreneurship, and career development.

  • Experience with video and audio editing software such as Capcut, Premiere or other video editing software. 

  • Fluency with social media platforms (i.e., Facebook, Instagram, TikTok).

  • Interest in developing online marketing fluency.

  • Access to audio video recording equipment sufficient to create online videos.

  • Creativity and a keen eye for aesthetics and branding. 

  • Effective time management and prioritization skills. 

  • Ability to meet deadlines while working remotely and independently. 

  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with others.

  • Experience with monitoring and adhering to accessibility guidelines of marketing materials and digital content.

Hourly Rate $15.00/hour to $20.00/hour
