Job Description

Job Title: School of Public Health Brand Ambassador 

The School of Public Health Marketing and Communications Team is hiring two current or incoming School of Public Health students (bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral) to serve as Brand Ambassadors for the 2025-26 academic year. We are seeking creative, collaborative, and hardworking team members to help elevate Michigan Public Health’s brand awareness through a variety of channels, including social media and events.

 

The Brand Ambassador position is a 5-hour-per-week, hybrid position, with some in-person work at the School of Public Health, and some work that may be completed remotely. In-person and remote work can vary week-to-week and is dependent on the projects Brand Ambassadors are assigned to. The Brand Ambassadors will work closely with the Marketing and Communications Project Manager, Social Media and Content Specialist, and Multimedia Storyteller, as well as other members of the team to support the school’s marketing and communications strategy and produce engaging content. 

 

Applicants should have experience in social media content creation and video production, including content planning, capturing and editing, with an interest in engaging a variety of audiences, both in-person and through social media. In this position, you will appear on camera and conduct interviews with students, faculty and staff from the School of Public Health community to capture content for videos.

Prospective student recruitment video: Produce a video geared toward a prospective student audience that answers this question: What are the top three reasons you should choose to attend Michigan Public Health? 

  • Please follow these guidelines when recording your video: 

    • Video must be 60 seconds or less

    • Shoot the video vertically

    • You must be on camera for at least some portion of the video 

    • Video content must be filmed in at least three different locations and edited together

    • Showcase your creativity

    • If desired, the following assets are available to use in your video. 

Educational Value

The Michigan Public Health Brand Ambassadors will gain significant experience in brand management and content creation through their work with a high-functioning, collaborative team that supports the crucial mission of the School of Public Health. Based on the Brand Ambassadors’ skills and interests, they will have the opportunity to tailor a portion of their experience to participate in content development including photography, video production, social media, prospective student recruitment, event support, and more.

Job Requirements

Responsibilities

  • In partnership with the Social Media and Content Specialist, create engaging social media content aimed at prospective and current student audiences.

    • Pitch ideas and make recommendations for social media posts and campaigns.

    • Develop content capture plans, including production schedule and scripts.

    • Plan and execute interviews (organic and scheduled) with members of the community including students, staff and faculty. Brand Ambassadors will appear on camera frequently.  

    • Capture supplemental B-roll photography and video

    • Edit video to create engaging and meaningful content that appeals to target audiences 

    • Optimize content for appropriate platforms: Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Threads, and LinkedIn.

  • Identify and recruit other School of Public Health students to appear in videos. 

  • Attend various School of Public Health or U-M campus events to provide content capture for use on Michigan Public Health communications platforms. This may include capturing photos and video, primarily with use of a personal smartphone. 

  • Attend meetings relevant to assigned projects. 

  • Provide feedback and input on School of Public Health marketing materials and campaigns based on valuable personal experiences as a current student.

  • Provide day-of event support for School of Public Health events including set up, staffing, and tear down on an as-needed basis.

  • Based on interest and need, the Brand Ambassadors may also participate in additional marketing and communications projects, including graphic design, writing, and more. 

 

Desired Qualities

  • Must be a current or incoming undergraduate or graduate student at the School of Public Health

  • Experience working with video editing software and capturing video and photography on mobile devices

  • Organized and dependable with the ability to move a project from ideation to completion with limited supervision

  • Creative, solution-oriented, and adaptable with an interest in learning new things

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a group

  • Proactive and efficient communicator 

  • Ability to organize and coordinate multiple tasks with close attention to detail

  • Skilled at using social media to create and share engaging content. Direct experience using Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and/or Facebook in a marketing/communications capacity is preferred but not required.
