Job Description

Job Summary

This approximately 10 hour/wk position will serve as the Coordinator of Community Building and Wellness Programming in the Michigan Community Scholars Program, a residential learning community in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts at the University of Michigan. Responsibilities include: 

  1. advising the MCSP programming board;

  2. supporting and mentoring student leaders;

  3. developing and supporting wellness, cultural, and social programs and activities and coordinating program communications;

  4. collaborating with other program coordinators on MCSP-wide events, and supporting the director and associate director on special projects as needed. 

These responsibilities are to be undertaken with direction and supervision from the Director and Associate Director of MCSP. The position runs from approximately August 1, 2025 to May 15, 2026. Flexible work hours may include days, evenings, and occasional weekends, as required. Some remote work is possible; however, program coordinators are expected to attend a weekly staff meeting, hold a weekly student leader team meeting in person, and maintain regular in-person office hours in the MCSP West Quad office.

Educational Value

MCSP program coordinators develop leadership skills, especially leading and supporting a team of undergraduate students engaged in intercultural programming. These skills include individual mentorship and team development. In addition, program coordinators gain a deeper understanding of the theoretical and practical frameworks that guide their work, increase their ability to develop and execute meaningful, student-centered programming for diverse undergraduates, and work collaboratively with a team of professionals to advance and develop the program mission.

 
Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree. Commitment to MCSP mission; understanding of community building and holistic wellness as informed by the Wellness Wheel; collaborative and equitable leadership experience; demonstrated experience supporting the holistic wellbeing of students; experience organizing wellness and community building programs; good interpersonal, facilitation, teamwork, communication, and organizational skills; ability to work effectively with a diverse group of supervisors, faculty, staff, and students.

Desired Qualifications:

Experience in residential learning communities or similar; experience in mentoring or advising; cultural competence/sensitivity training or experience.
