Job Description

Student Engagement Program Assistant

 

The Arts Initiative’s Student Engagement team supports students as artists, audience members, and arts leaders. Student Engagement Program Assistants will support Arts Initiative programming, and lead and co-lead arts event engagement activities throughout the year. We are looking to hire two students for this new role, which will explore arts’ ability to serve as a social connector and to help build a community that values the arts. 
 

The students in this role will be expected to work one activity per week on average, many of which will take place in the evenings or weekends. Scheduling of activities will take into account the students’ schedules.
 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Leading local arts excursions for students, which could include visits to museums, galleries, performances, film screenings, etc. Students in this role will plan and implement the logistics of the activities, and engage with fellow students throughout the events 

  • Serving as social instigator by leading introductions, initiating conversation, discussing art, and finding ways to help build connection between student participants

  • Representing the Arts Initiative at info fairs and other student-facing events, talking about the work we do, fielding questions, and facilitating art making activities

  • With support from the Student Engagement team, the students in this position will be able to develop and implement ideas for student engagement programming.

  • Meeting weekly with their supervisor and attending Arts Initiative meetings as needed

  • Managing administration and communications for facilitated activities, including pre-event communication with attendees, tracking attendance/participation, sending feedback surveys, and gathering and transporting materials/supplies 

  • Supporting other Arts Initiative programming as needed

Students in this role will: Gain leadership skills and experience developing community within groups • Improve written and verbal communication skills • Improve functional use of Google Forms and Sessions • Gain an increased understanding of student learning outcomes related to the arts • Improve project coordination and event management skills • Expand awareness of campus and community arts resources 

Job Requirements

Availability to work approximately 6-8 hours per week, including at evening and weekend events; graduation from high school, preferably with some college education; some work or volunteer experience leading groups or engaging with new people; high interest in the arts, and familiarity with Ann Arbor; comfort in leading group conversations, and sensitivity to group dynamics

Hourly Rate $18.00/hour
Hours 6.0 to 8.0 hours per week
