Job Description

Impact Studio Marketing Storyteller

The Impact Studio at Michigan Ross, an initiative of Business+Impact (B+I), seeks an experienced student to provide holistic support to the marketing and communications activity of the studio. The Marketing Storyteller will report directly to the Impact Studio Program Specialist but will engage with other studio staff, faculty, and the B+I Associate Director of Marketing & Communications in this work. The position includes assisting with strategizing, planning, producing, and executing studio marketing efforts, including our social media accounts and Medium journal, content for the B+I monthly newsletter, creating social media content for multiple platforms and occasional graphic design work for Impact Studio events. The candidate will also help identify, gather, write, and edit Impact Studio stories for various channels. It may also include organizational and clerical tasks related to studio programming, events, and marketing activities.

Educational Value

The Marketing Storyteller will have the opportunity to participate in strategizing, developing, and managing media efforts in marketing for the greater good. They will have ongoing opportunities to develop their professionalism further, expand their marketing skills and knowledge, and work in a time-oriented environment with quickly shifting priorities. This person will work with various stakeholder groups, including staff, students, faculty, and community partners, and learn to adapt messaging to each group. This position offers the chance to develop and improve writing, graphics, and communications skills and contribute to impact-focused marketing efforts as part of a collaborative team.

Job Requirements

Specific Job Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Impact Studio team in coordinating and implementing marketing & branding strategies
  • Provide ideas for new ways to creatively engage and build the studio’s social media community
  • Use design software to create marketing content, including graphics, videos, and captions
  • Assist with developing a content calendar and publish social media posts to highlight studio programs and activities
  • Engage with Applebaum Impact Design Fellows, Impact Studio Founders, Impact Studio mentors, faculty, and staff to collect and craft well-worded and engaging “stories”
  • Write original blog posts regularly for the Medium Journal, highlighting venture-related work and newsworthy activities, and/or partnerships
  • Help develop communication and campaign plans for special emails, social media, including Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook, and the Medium Journal
  • Assist with managing and maintaining the media platform distribution plan
  • Analyze marketing activities to inform respective marketing strategies and objectives
  • Support the coordination of event planning timelines and assist with the execution of events

Skills

  • Excellent communication skills, including strong writing and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in social media platforms, including Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook; experience developing and implementing successful marketing strategies/campaigns desired
  • Graphics skills, including proficiency in Canva and Adobe Creative Suite (primarily Spark, InDesign, Photoshop)
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic, follow through, and willingness to learn new things
  • Strong coordination and project management abilities with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-based setting, and with diverse groups
  • Ability to accomplish multiple tasks efficiently and adapt to shifting priorities
  • Knowledge about and interest in topics of social impact and sustainability
  • Commitment to justice and demonstrated ability to craft equitable and inclusive communications
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75, must maintain GPA during employment

 

Open to remote working, but must be available to work in-person on occasion to support events and other marketing activities as needed.
