Job Description

Title: Business Systems Analyst, student worker

As the Business Systems Analyst – Student Worker, you will support the U-M Development Community in advancing the comprehensive fundraising programs of the University of Michigan. Your responsibilities will include maintaining and developing ad hoc report documentation and developing a visual finding aid (website) to help the development community access dashboards and reports. You will work in a mission-driven environment that supports the goals of the Office of University Development (OUD) and the broader University. In this role, you will build positive and meaningful relationships with coworkers and stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

40% – Documentation

  • Develop, review, and update reporting documentation in Business Objects and Tableau.
  • Conduct user research to ensure documentation is user-friendly and actionable for the broader development community.

40% – Finding Aid

  • Collaborate with the IDS team to create a visual finding aid (e.g., website) to host development reports, dashboards, and related documentation.
  • Conduct user research to determine the most effective platform or tool for the finding aid.

20% - Other as assigned

Educational Value

The student will gain valuable IT experience and learn how to effectively engage with stakeholders to develop user-friendly and actionable documentation. They will also learn how to create a website or Google Site that will be used by a wide variety of stakeholders.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • A desire to learn and support the mission and goals of both the University of Michigan and the Office of University Development.
  • Experience developing/creating websites or digital communication channels
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive data.
  • Current University of Michigan student.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and independent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with multiple competing priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented setting.
  • Commitment to maintaining a professional and positive workplace.
  • Strong client service orientation and ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to a wide range of users.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace (Word, Excel, Access, Gmail, Docs, Sites, Sheets).
  • Demonstrated technical aptitude, curiosity, and creative problem-solving ability.
  • Reliable, dependable, professional, and positive demeanor.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with best practices in development, fundraising, or community service, as outlined by professional organizations such as CASE.
  • Strong time management and analytical skills, with the ability to forecast timelines and meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to excellent customer service and proactive planning.
  • Familiarity with enterprise/CRM systems.
  • Working knowledge of Tableau or other data visualization tools.
  • Willingness to expand technical knowledge individually and across the team.
  • Experience with business process evaluation and redesign.

Experience with Google Sites or building a website is a must. Experience with development (former D-SIP) would be awesome!
