The Office of Academic Multicultural Initiatives (OAMI) supports and celebrates the unique experiences and backgrounds of students as well as their communities and identities. We collaborate with campus and external partners on programs and initiatives that help students develop the skills and perspectives necessary to succeed in college and beyond while supporting U-M in its ongoing commitment to nurture an intellectually and culturally diverse campus. The Communications Assistant works closely with and reports to the Assistant Director of Marketing and Communication to develop, craft, and publicize social and digital content. The assistant will support OAMI programs and initiatives by working with staff and students to promote events and highlight ongoing work within the office. They will actively write and edit content for email, web, and social media. A key aspect of the assistantship will involve overseeing a bi-weekly email newsletter for SuccessConnects using Mailchimp. The role will include such tasks as: - Attending OAMI events to create social posts, which will sometimes require evening and weekend assignments.
- Creating content calendars for social media and website content
- Pitching ideas and developing content for events and other newsworthy stories
- Organizing digital assets to publish in posts and emails and on web pages
- Reviewing performance and engagement metrics and providing reports and recommendations for improvement
