Description:
This position supports the School of Social Work Digital Accessibility team by testing, analyzing, and remediating course websites to ensure they meet accessibility standards. Students will learn and apply best practices for digital accessibility and become proficient with technologies that help make digital content accessible. Students will work independently and collaboratively to identify and address accessibility issues in Canvas courses and supplemental documentation. They will also analyze data from their testing and remediation efforts to provide insights on common issues and provide estimates for the time required to bring future courses up to accessibility standards.

We are looking for students who:

  • Understand the importance of digital accessibility
  • Have basic knowledge of accessibility standards or a willingness to learn
  • Are tech-savvy and quick to learn new technologies
  • Are adept at analyzing workloads and data to develop detailed reports
  • Have a demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and respectfully with faculty and staff, including explaining technical concepts in a clear and supportive manner

This position is only open to graduate students. Students will be expected to exercise a high level of discretion and maintain strict confidentiality when accessing and working with course materials in the SSW’s course catalog.

 

Educational Value

This position offers students hands-on experience in digital accessibility, enhancing their technical skills and equipping them with the expertise needed for creating inclusive digital environments. Students will develop proficiency with accessibility tools, strengthen their problem-solving abilities, and gain experience in data analysis and report generation. This role prepares students for careers in web development, digital accessibility evaluation, educational technology, user experience design, and compliance roles.
