Professor in U-M Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Psychology is seeking an undergraduate student interested in a career in medicine or the healthcare professions to assist with research projects for our NIDILRR-funded Michigan Spinal Cord Injury Model Systems (MI-SCIMS) project and other initiatives focused on disability health and wellness. The specific projects involve collection of data from inpatients and outpatients with traumatic Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) at an off-campus U-M site and Chelsea Hospital.
The person in this position will assist with engaging, recruiting and collecting data from individuals with SCI and extracting information from the electronic healthcare system. They will be expected to travel to Chelsea Hospital to collect data at a time convenient for inpatients possibly including evenings and weekends – and to attend inpatient rehabilitation rounds or team meetings. They will enter data into REDCap and other online data systems and participate in required training sessions. This position will provide the student with insight into the experiences of individuals living with spinal cord injury, including their time in the inpatient unit and their journey through the aging process. The student can also participate in the operations of an established research team that focuses on disability health and wellness. Depending on availability and motivation, student(s) may have the opportunity to author specific outputs, possibly to include peer-reviewed manuscripts. The responsibilities of this position include: · Engage and enroll (via phone and in-person) participants into the MI-SCIMS and other collaborative modules · Collect data from inpatients and outpatients with traumatic Spinal Cord Injury · Create and send Qualtrics and REDCap surveys to collect data from diverse stakeholders to develop and coordinate activities/events. · Attend and participate in regular team meetings to ensure effective communication, collaboration, and project tracking. · Tailor information and outputs for various stakeholders · Assist with other research and knowledge translation activities as requested
