Job Description

The Department of Industrial and Operations Engineering (IOE) at the University of Michigan is hiring a student temp to support event coordination and general office operations. The student will assist with planning and executing meetings, seminars, and events, and provide administrative support under the direction of the Executive Assistant and the Alumni Engagement Manager. This role offers valuable experience in a professional academic setting and involves regular interaction with faculty, staff, students, and alumni.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Event Coordination: Assist with the planning and execution of departmental events, seminars, and meetings by coordinating catering orders, reserving rooms, arranging furniture, and preparing necessary materials.
     

  • On-Site Event Support: Provide logistical support during events, including setting up signage, distributing materials, greeting attendees, and assisting with clean-up and post-event wrap-up.
     

  • Administrative Support: Perform routine office duties such as photocopying, filing, maintaining supply inventories, and organizing departmental materials.
     

  • Project Assistance: Support special projects and initiatives as assigned by the Executive Assistant or Alumni Engagement Manager, which may include drafting communications, compiling data, or assisting with outreach efforts.
     

  • Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with faculty, staff, students, and alumni to support departmental activities and ensure event logistics meet their needs and expectations.

  • Team Engagement: Share updates on assigned responsibilities, and contribute ideas to improve departmental processes and events.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled at the University of Michigan.

  • Strong attention to detail; excellent computer and organizational skills; creative thinker; demonstrated problem solver; enthusiastic, dependable, and must be a self-starter with a positive attitude.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.

  • Proficiency with Google Suite tools, in particular, Google sheets.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends, as events may require.

  • Interest in Industrial and Operations Engineering is a plus!

Hourly Rate $15.00/hour
