Job Description

Job Title: Global Engagement Student Assistant
 This is a temporary, part-time position for the 2025-26 academic year, ideal for U-M students with an interest in education abroad. The Global Engagement Student Assistant will report to the International Travel Safety Manager within the Global Engagement Team (GET) and will collaborate on a variety of global education projects. Responsibilities may include:

  • Developing visual content and scripts for self-guided videos to help students prepare for education abroad experiences, utilizing AI-based video platforms
  • Integrating safety and well-being perspectives into Identities Abroad resources
  • Reassessing current U-M country risk rating terminology and related webpages
  • Assisting GET travel safety members with the design of communication materials, including visual infographics and presentations
  • Publishing resources and updating content on the Global Michigan website as needed
  • Supporting additional projects as assigned

Educational Value

The Global Engagement Team, on behalf of the Provost’s Office, provides consultation, support services, and infrastructure for U-M schools, colleges, and units that offer education abroad programs for students. Team members develop and maintain resources for international travel health and safety, respond to travel emergencies and critical incidents, conduct pre-departure workshops, and support the M-Compass and travel registry systems.

As a Global Engagement Student Assistant, you will gain valuable skills and experience in the following areas:

  • Travel risk management
  • International education administration within a large public research institution
  • Use of Terra Dotta software
  • Digital marketing tools, including Canva, WordPress, and Adobe
  • Digital video creation platforms, including Biteable and Synthesia
Job Requirements
  • Demonstrated interest in international education and/or prior education abroad experience
  • Ability and willingness to learn new platforms and technologies, including WordPress, Canva, Synthesia, and Biteable.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and an aptitude for innovation.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Self-motivation, reliability, and willingness to take initiative.
Hourly Rate $18.00/hour
