Job Description

About the Position:

Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) is seeking a Front Desk Student Assistant(s) to support the daily operations of the SSD office by providing front-line administrative support. This role supplements the work of the administrative staff and is essential to creating a welcoming, inclusive environment for students, staff, and visitors. SSD is a department within the Student Life Unit - Student Accessibility and Accommodation Services (SAAS).

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Greet guests and direct them to the appropriate staff or resources

  • Answer phone calls and take messages as needed

  • Assist with scheduling student appointments 

  • Respond to basic inquiries about SSD services and procedures

  • Assist with clerical tasks such as data entry, filing, scanning, and document preparation

  • Maintain a clean and organized front desk area

  • Support special projects and events as assigned

About Services for Students with Disabilities and Student Accessibility and Accommodation Services:

Student Accessibility and Accommodation Services (SAAS) is a student-centered unit within the Division of Student Life whose work is guided by best-practice standards and interventions utilizing a multidimensional model of student well-being. SAAS oversees three key resources; Services for Students with Disabilities, the Adaptive Sports and Fitness program, & Testing Accommodation Centers (TAC), and is committed to providing support services, advocacy and academic accommodations to students with disabilities. SAAS is strongly committed to outreach services to the academic community at large, and promoting awareness of disability issues and providing support for equal access for all students. SAAS is a partner to students, faculty and staff in the pursuit of developing leaders and citizens who will challenge the present and enrich the future.

Educational Value

Students will gain knowledge of the field of disability services and gain experience navigating a variety of inquiries from students, staff, faculty, and families. Students will experience the opportunity to develop their professionalism, communication skills, and standards of confidentiality with the support of an engaging and dynamic team of professional staff. 

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Enrollment at the University of Michigan

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Professional, reliable, and detail-oriented

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold office policies

  • Commitment to creating a respectful and accessible environment for all students

Hourly Rate $20.00/hour
