About

The Keene Theater at the Residential College (RC) is hiring members of our Student Tech Team. This role assists in event execution by operating and maintaining audio, video, and lighting equipment during the Keene Theater's busy event schedule in the Fall and Winter semesters. The Keene Theater is a 150-seat theater in East Quad, that hosts student plays, musicals, concerts, guest lectures, and other performances. The candidate should be tech-savvy and familiar with AV and lighting equipment, and will be trained on equipment that they are not familiar with. This is a part-time, in-person position, with a variable work schedule: busy production weeks may include up to 20 hours, while slower weeks may only offer ~5 hours of open shifts, depending on the needs of the theater. Responsibilities

  • Assisting in event setup, execution, and teardown for plays, lectures, musicals, concerts, and class performances. Includes tasks such as

    • Assembling and prepping microphones

    • Ushering the audience

    • Assisting event staff to prepare for the event

  • Operating the theater's technical equipment, such as the following:

    • ETC Ion lighting console

    • Yamaha LS9 mixer / Keene PA system

    • Desktop computer with QLab

    • Projector and screen

  • Coordinating with event organizers such as the Center for World Performance Studies, the RC Players, and RC staff and faculty

  • Assisting with theater maintenance, repairing equipment, and organizing theatrical props

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at UM's Ann Arbor campus during FA25 and WN26

  • Must have Work Study available as part of student's Financial Aid package

  • Experience with event planning

  • Willing to learn how to operate theater equipment

  • Reliable and dependable

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Be willing to work a flexible schedule, primarily evenings and weekends

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with theater lighting and programming (Experience with computer programming is a plus), experience with QLab

  • Experience working in the performing arts

  • Experience as a stage manager, backstage technician, or other relevant role

  • Customer service experience
