JOB TITLE: Education Work-Study Student

DEPARTMENT: Learning & Engagement

REPORTS TO: Vice President, Learning & Engagement

SUMMARY

DESCRIPTION: Students will work with the Learning & Engagement (L&E) staff on a range of projects involving the planning and production of select learning and public programming events (master classes, workshops, artist meet-&-greets, performances for youth, receptions, and meetings). Business hours are from 10am-5pm, Monday-Friday. L&E events vary week to week but are sometimes during the weekday and frequently on evenings and weekends.This position is in-person.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

• Assist in planning and developing L&E artist residences and special programs and initiatives

• Assist with pre-event logistics (prepare materials; transport artists, presenters, and supplies to events) and assist with post-event logistics (payment processing, follow-up communication and correspondence)

• Assist in preparing & executing L&E marketing mailings (letters, postcards, brochures, etc) and content generation for e-mail marketing pieces

• Provide on-site staffing at L&E events

• Help maintain departmental archives/databases (Event Statistics, Tessitura/TicketingSystem, Feedback and Research Files, Program Evaluations)

• Assist in responding to internal and external requests of the L&E Department

• Whenever possible, special projects (including producing an event) will be assigned that reflect personal interests and career goals

Educational Value

Provides experience to students who have an interest in the related fields of arts administration. All student workers make a commitment to work an average of ten hours per week. Student workers will receive valuable experience and contacts in the performing arts field, and are eligible for free tickets to most UMS performances.

Job Requirements

SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS: 

• An interest in the performing arts or arts administration.

• Availability to work evenings and weekends on a regular basis.

• Strong communication and research skills.

• Ability to interface with the public.

• Be reliable, flexible, self-motivated, and curious.

• This position routinely moves equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds across campus and various other locations for event needs.
