Job Description |
Out of School Time (OST) Educator Community Day Care (CDC) is looking for enthusiastic and dedicated Out of School Time (OST) Educators for elementary school aged students. We run enriching before- and after-school programs at: Burns Park Elementary (1414 Wells Street, Ann Arbor, MI) Lawton Elementary (2250 S. Seventh Street, Ann Arbor, MI)
In addition to these programs, we also operate two preschools and a summer camp. CDC is a non-profit committed to providing high-quality childcare and early childhood education. Our mission is to strengthen our community by empowering our educators and supporting family access to equitable, child-centered care.
About the Role:As an Out of School Time (OST) Educator at Kids Club, you'll lead engaging, child-led experiences for young 5s through 5th graders. Our choice-based environment helps children build skills and confidence, while we cultivate their interests and social-emotional development through free choice time, educator-guided activities, and child-initiated clubs, all emphasizing active child participation. Our educational approach includes: STEM Activities: Hands-on projects like marshmallow structures or baking soda volcanoes that build critical thinking. Dramatic Play: Encourages creativity and understanding through activities such as pretend restaurants or vet clinics. Outdoor Play: Nature-based learning, including scavenger hunts and building fairy houses, supports physical health and environmental awareness. Open-Ended Play & Art: Fosters independence, innovation, and self-expression with cardboard creations or process art. Social-Emotional Connections: Builds strong peer relationships, empathy, and communication skills via group story creation and cooperative games. Physical Activity: Encourages gross motor development and healthy habits through activities like obstacle courses, gym time, or dance parties!

Schedule & Location:Schedule: Part-time, Monday to Friday After school shifts: 3:15pm-6:15pm Start Date: As Soon As Possible Work Location: In person – Ann Arbor, MI 48104 Commute: Reliable commute or planned relocation to Ann Arbor, MI 48104 before starting work is required. Both schools are accessible by bus route; Burns Park is close to U of M campus.
Job Requirements:Applicants must be at least 16 years of age. Applicants must be willing to obtain 16 hours of professional training per academic school year. Applicants must get fingerprint clearance and a tuberculosis test per state of Michigan childcare licensing requirements. A minimum of 3 shifts required (preferably either all AM or all PM) per week. Reliable attendance to maintain child to staff ratios. Ability to supervise 10 children at a time. Willing to work in all different roles of the position: leading activities, supervising children outside and in the gym, serving snack, engaging in play with children, cleaning and maintaining the space. Commitment to an approach that fosters shared control and youth empowerment, allowing children to actively participate in decision-making and program design, with a present, encouraging, and respectful demeanor.
A successful candidate for our programs possesses a blend of patience, energy, and strong interpersonal skills. They are adept at managing a small group of children effectively, fostering a safe and engaging environment while adhering to the program's specified adult-to-child ratio. This individual demonstrates a genuine passion for youth development, is capable of adapting to diverse needs, and excels at building positive relationships with both children and their parents. |
