Job Description

This position will engage students in a research laboratory at the University of Michigan Medical School, investigating Th2 inflammatory responses and lung inflammation in asthma both in human and mouse models. In our lab, student responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Handling biological samples, such as isolating CD4+ T cells from mouse spleens, and independently performing molecular techniques like PCR-based mouse genotyping, RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, and qPCR. Additionally, tasks involve mouse handling, cell culture, mouse organ harvesting, and various immunological techniques, including western blot, and ELISA. 

Educational Value

The educational value of this position includes experience with laboratory procedures and involvement in academic research along with the possibility of authorship in manuscripts and presenting data in seminar/conference.

Job Requirements

For the coming semester, we seek applicants with a keen interest in molecular and immunological studies, available for a minimum of 3-hour blocks between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. for a total of minimum 6 hours per week (Monday-Friday). Ability and willingness to work independently is crucial. Prior lab experience, including pipetting and basic buffer solution preparation, is required, with familiarity in Excel and PowerPoint being beneficial. It is extremely vital that students pay attention to experimental details and keep thorough records.
