Job Description

The Office of the Provost is responsible for both academic and budgetary affairs at the University of Michigan. This is a fast paced office environment. As a student assistant in our office, you will be a highly valued member of our team who will provide assistance with many projects ranging from small administrative tasks to event planning and execution. 

 

Duties Include: Answering the provost office main phone line professionally and cordially, directing calls to appropriate resources and people and taking accurate messages; providing reception desk coverage during the lunch hour and as needed; performing routine but varied clerical tasks including copying, scanning and compilation of records; distribution of mail; small and large event planning and execution including catering, entertainment and venue research, invitation creation; operating computer programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Canva, Dropbox; some driving required to run errands on and off campus. 

Educational Value

The student will gain experience working in a fast-paced executive office setting. The student will also gain knowledge of professionalism, confidentiality of records and University policies and procedures. 

Job Requirements

To be successful in this position, you must have a “positive, can-do” attitude and be willing to learn and improve upon your current skills. You are proactive and self-starting and eager to assist staff and guests of the Office of the Provost and possess attention to detail, resourcefulness and the ability to follow instructions. You must be a student at the University of Michigan. A valid driver’s license is required. Due to the critical nature of our operations, reliable attendance and punctuality are a must.
