The University of Michigan Library's Human Resources team is seeking an assistant who is interested in gaining experience in the areas of recruitment, compensation, staff development, performance management and data management related to all these areas. This role will also work with HR staff on special projects as well as assist with customer service. This position will be a hybrid of in office work and remote work. (Work-study is preferred for this position but is not mandatory)

Job Duration:

This is a long-term assignment. I would like to have a student who would work in this position for multiple terms / semesters

  • Ability to complete assignments to agreed upon deadlines

  • Familiarity with office software such as Google Drive / Docs and Microsoft Office

  • Ability to do detailed work with accuracy and care

  • Excellent interpersonal /communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Ability to thrive in a team environment

  • Must be able to schedule a minimum of two-hour blocks of time

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in office or clerical work.

  • Familiarity with data management, such as creating graphs and charts in programs such as Microsoft Excel and Google Sheet. (Pivot tables, V-Look-up and other advanced Excel features a plus)

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Clerical duties including performing errands, data entry, and database maintenance.

  • Creation, maintenance and audit of employee personnel files

  • Tracking for data collection

  • Answering inquiries in person or by email from faculty, staff, students, or guests

  • Digitizing Search Files

  • Maintenance of files

  • Updating LHR posting boards with current job postings, relevant events on campus

  • Document HR practices and processes
