Job Description

Job Title: Planet Blue Ambassador Sustainability Program Assistant: Community Outreach and Communications Specialist

The Planet Blue Ambassador (PBA) program educates students, staff, and faculty members about sustainability initiatives at the University of Michigan and inspires them to get engaged and lead through personal action. The PBA program accomplishes this through hosting events and trainings, tabling, collaborating with other units and groups across campus, creating blogs, and sharing access to resources. The individual selected for this role will be involved in planning, implementing, and assessing PBA’s engagement and outreach activities. A cover letter is required to be considered for this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement tabling activities related to university sustainability.
  • Coordinate between multiple university sustainability units when planning event opportunities.
  • Develop and lead 2 to 3 smaller-scale engaging sustainability events for the Fall semester, such as a gardening  workshop, a voluntary trash clean-up, or reused crafting day.
  • Support and staff events as needed, including but not limited to…
    • tabling at orientations, resource fairs, and other opportunities across campus.
    • PBA tables and events during Climate Week.
    • events and programs specific to various schools, colleges, and identities.
  • Collect information about U-M groups and contacts for outreach initiatives.
  • Research and refine methods for improving engagement with the U-M community.
  • Design and publish communication materials about the PBA program and advertising opportunities.
  • Assist with content creation for monthly newsletters.
  • Record metrics for PBA events and newsletter.
  • Additional tasks as needed.

Job Requirements

  • Experience with graphic design, writing, and other communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of sustainability best practices and the links between sustainability, well-being, belonging, and justice.
  • Ability to manage time effectively
  • Experience planning and running events, involving logistics coordination
  • Excitement to learn and try new things. 
  • Ability to thrive in self-directed work.
  • Consistently professional with regard to communication, punctuality, and reliability.
  • Familiarity with Canva and Google Workspace.
  • Planet Blue Ambassador strongly preferred.

 

Hourly Rate $17.50/hour
Hours 8.0 to 10.0 hours per week
