Job Description

The purpose of this project is to transcribe the mp3 audio files from a 35 hour flashdrive collection of some of the world’s finest language learning materials in eastern dialect Ojibway or Ojibwe (Anishinaabemowin). This will assist with the library’s materials ingestion process to make all digitally accessible materials ADA compliant. If the transcription is completed early, and the student would like to continue with the work, higher level language learning materials are available for transcription. Finally, students will summarize and present on the scope of their work and this project in its entirety with the aim to highlight the usefulness of these materials and this work to the library community at large and language learners at this university.

Students are also required to complete this library specific application.

Educational Value

Students will Listen to, transcribe, analyze and manage data, as well as incorporate feedback from library employees and Ojibwe instructors. They will collaborate with a variety of library professionals, and communicate with staff in pertinent university departments.

 
Job Requirements

Qualifications:

Ability to work independently

Ability to listen to and originally transcribe audible information

Capacity and willingness to work with old and new forms of technology

Demonstrated time management skills

Good interpersonal and communication skills

Must be available to meet once weekly in person or on zoom between 4-6pm M-Th

Interest in languages and dialectal and spelling differences and willingness to discuss decision-making process for these choices

 

Preferred:

more than one semester of experience in an Ojibwe language learning environment, interest in libraries, familiarity with and respect for Anishinaabe culture

 
Hourly Rate $16.00/hour
