Job Description |
Hands-On Trainings In Semiconductors is a series of workshops and camps designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of microelectronics and semiconductor materials through interactive activities and experiences. Counselors play a crucial role in ensuring a smooth and engaging experience for participants. Counselors are responsible for managing logistics, assisting students with activities, set-up and tear-down, and providing general support to ensure a positive environment. Working Details Sessions run from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., including set-up and tear-down. Workshops are typically scheduled once every two weeks; the day of the week may vary. Sessions are held on weekdays only; weekend work is not currently required. Locations include the Bob and Betty Beyster Building on North Campus or local high school campuses within 30 minutes of U-M. Students will not be asked to work during their classes. If selected for an interview, applicants will be asked to provide their availability so sessions can be scheduled around academic commitments. Counselors are expected to attend all assigned sessions.
Key Responsibilities Assist participants with entry-level activities such as coding Raspberry Pi devices, assembling breadboards, soldering components onto PCBs, and using tools such as multimeters. Help maintain the daily schedule and support smooth transitions between activities. Provide general supervision and contribute to a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment. Assist instructors and leadership with setup, cleanup, and logistical tasks. Model professionalism, enthusiasm, and adherence to workshop policies.

Job Requirements |
Must be currently enrolled at the University of Michigan as a sophomore or higher. Ability to travel independently to off-campus workshop sites within 30 minutes of Ann Arbor. Foundational knowledge of coding and electrical engineering (e.g., Raspberry Pi, breadboards, soldering, basic circuits). Responsible, reliable, and punctual, with strong organizational, time-management, and teamwork skills. Ability to supervise and engage with students in a friendly and professional manner. Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and adapting to schedule changes. Ability to walk and stand for extended periods, and move supplies between locations as needed. Must pass a background check in accordance with university policies for working with minors. Prior experience working with youth (e.g., tutoring, mentoring, camp counseling) is a plus but not required. CPR, AED, and/or First Aid Certification is a plus but not required.
