Job Description

The Office of Public Health Practice at the University of Michigan School of Public Health extends the university's resources to public health practitioners in governmental and community-based organizations and provides practice opportunities for Michigan Public Health students and faculty. Programs housed in the Practice Office demonstrate the school's commitment to securing and strengthening Michigan's current and future public health practice community through student engagement, workforce development, and community engagement.

 

Program Assistant will assist with student and faculty engagement and communication. Responsibilities will include, but not limited to, program development, evaluation analysis and reporting, communications, and social media campaigns. The position may require other duties as assigned.

Educational Value

Program Development - The Program Assistant will contribute to the development of training and events in a variety of formats. This may include conducting environmental scans of existing resources, developing surveys to assess needs and researching content to inform engagement activities. 

Communications - The Program Assistant will assist with identifying and/or creating relevant content to share with our public health audiences through social media.

Evaluation - The Program Assistant will organize, analyze, and report social media engagement data to support and inform future engagement efforts.

Activities may involve working with external partners and learning new technologies.

Community Engagement: The Program Assistant will assist with community engagement for the Practice Office by identifying and/or engaging with local and state-wide partners that would be a good fit.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently to meet deadlines is essential.

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills are required.

  • Excellent writing skills within a digital environment and keen sensitivity to image curation, written and spoken language.

  • Strong understanding of social media platforms (I.e., Instagram, Facebook, etc.) and strategies for engagement.

  • Availability for in person work on Tuesdays or Wednesdays between 10am and 4pm is preferred. 

  • May require some weekend or late night hours for events with notice.

 

This is a hybrid position, where you may alternate between working remotely and working in the office.
