M-LEAD PODCAST STUDENT Producer/Editor

Position Overview:

The Michigan Leadership Collaborative is seeking a passionate and skilled Podcast Producer/Editor to help produce an exciting and insightful podcast focused on leadership topics within the university community. As the Podcast Host/Producer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the podcast's content, conducting engaging interviews, and producing high-quality episodes that inspire, inform, and empower the University of Michigan's students, faculty, staff, and broader audience.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Host Engaging Podcast Episodes:

    • Conduct in-depth research to develop well-prepared and thought-provoking podcast episodes on leadership.

    • Engage listeners, promote dialogue, and foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere on the podcast.

  • Lead Interviews and Discussions:

    • Identify and invite guests from various backgrounds, including university leaders, scholars, community activists, and students, to participate in informative and insightful interviews and discussions.

    • Skillfully guide interviews to ensure meaningful and relevant conversations that resonate with the podcast's audience.

    • *note not every episode will require the host/producer to participate in the conversation, some episodes will be made by the participants themselves.

  • Content Development and Storytelling:

    • Develop episode concepts, outline content, and create compelling narratives that highlight leadership success stories, and leadership practices at the University of Michigan.

  • Recording Editing and Production 

    • Edit and produce high-quality audio episodes by cleaning recordings, balancing sound levels, adding music/effects, and ensuring consistency with the podcast’s brand and tone.

    • Collaborate with hosts, producers, and guests to refine content flow, structure episodes, and meet publishing deadlines.

    • Manage technical aspects of post-production, including file organization, metadata tagging, and preparing final mixes for distribution across podcast platforms.

Adaptability: The role will require continued practice to adapt to the challenges of recording remotely, working with multiple stakeholders, guest experience and understanding of podcast recording, and many other areas. 

Building Relationships: With the podcast being a collaborative effort across campus you will have the opportunity to interact with stakeholders at all levels of the organization alumni, students, staff, and faculty. The ability to enhance your network and continue to practice the skills associated with building relationships will be significant. 

Digital Technology: You will have the opportunity to learn and improve your skills associated with using a myriad of technological tools to produce and edit the podcast. This can include exploring new technology to improve aspects of the podcast and the ability to try out new ideas. 

Facilitation: You will have the opportunity to facilitate meetings and podcast recording sessions allowing you to develop and practice the art of facilitating. 

Feedback: You will receive feedback from members of the collaborative, guests, and your supervisor that you will then respond to and implement. You will also be able to provide feedback to guests prior to and in real-time related to episode format and content delivery. 

 
Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Familiarity with various podcast formats

  • Quick on your feet

  • Strong understanding and passion for leadership principles, especially within the context of higher education.

  • Excellent communication and interview skills, with the ability to lead engaging and meaningful discussions.

  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

 

Desired Skills:

  • Experience producing a podcast

  • Experience with any storytelling format (writing, video editing, etc.)

  • Experience with basic recording equipment (microphones, digital recorders, etc) and various ways to record both in person and virtually

  • Some experience with Logic Pro X, Audacity, or any other digital audio workstation

Hourly Rate $15.00/hour
