The Clowney Lab is seeking an undergraduate research assistant. We study how transcription factors shape neuronal fates, allowing a whole brain to be constructed by a limited number of stem cells. Currently we are focusing on using transcription factor expression to determine "Where a neuron is from," (AKA its family or "lineage") using the central brain of fruit flies. This position is ideal for students seeking a long-term research experience and hoping to grow their skills over time. Responsibilities may include basic fly husbandry and genetics, data analysis, or helping to develop an image processing pipeline. Applicants should direct their materials to jclowney@umich.edu. Instead of a CV, they should briefly answer the following questions: 1. If you were going to design a brain from scratch, how would you organize it? 2. If there were infinite resources, describe an experiment / project to study the brain that excites you the most. 3. What do you hope to get out of this position? |
