Job Description

The wheelchair tennis intern/assistant coach will support the Head Wheelchair Tennis coach in on-court training and practices and support the overall team operation. The wheelchair tennis intern will serve as the teams assistant coach and provide technical and tactical assistance for athlete development. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

Training Support

  • Assist in setting up and breaking down equipment for practices and training sessions.
  • Support athletes during training by providing feedback under the guidance of coaches.
  • Facilitate individualized athlete needs, including modifications or accommodations for movement requirements or gameplay.
  • Feed and/or play in for games during team and small group training sessions.
  • Schedule and assist with 1:1 training and small group sessions.

Event Coordination

  • Help organize and coordinate wheelchair tennis tournaments, including travel arrangements, schedules, and logistics.
  • Assist with planning and executing special events such as clinics or community outreach initiatives.
  • Assist with event-day logistics, including athlete travel, check-ins, warm-ups, and athlete/equipment management.
  • Act as a liaison between athletes, coaches, and event officials to support operations during events.
  • May have the ability to travel with the team for competitive events.

General Program Support

  • Attend team practices, competitions, and events, providing logistical and operational support.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of training spaces and equipment.
  • Participate in periodic performance reviews/debriefing with the coaching staff to assess contributions and gain feedback loops to better adjust training.
  • Demonstrate initiative by proposing innovative ideas or solutions to improve athlete performance or program operations.
