The Communications Assistant will support Clinic projects, events, and reporting, as well as help develop and share communications and educational materials for internal and external audiences. Our projects and communications engage a wide range of students, faculty, staff, Detroit community partners, university administrators, and alumni. Communications at the Clinic is dynamic and collaborative — ranging from writing and digital storytelling to event planning and design. New priorities often emerge quickly, so adaptability and flexibility are key. Key Responsibilities: Write content for the Clinic’s Quarterly eNewsletter Draft and edit LinkedIn content (posts, visuals, and reels) and collaborate on social media strategy Assist in planning, promoting, and attending events Interview students, faculty, and community partners for profile features Photograph events and contribute to multimedia storytelling Support grant and report writing as needed
Work Location and Schedule Flexible & Hybrid schedule (10-15 hours per week) Opportunity to work remotely as well as in person Expected to support some programs on select evenings and weekends, as needed In person work/meeting opportunities at the Dana Building or SEAS Detroit Sustainability Clinic (1420 Washington Blvd, Detroit, MI 48226)
About the U-M SEAS Detroit Sustainability Clinic The Clinic advances social, economic, and environmental sustainability policy and action by connecting Detroit area communities and organizations with university resources and expertise. Through long-term partnerships, capacity building, technical assistance, and applied research, the Clinic supports client-identified sustainability goals while providing SEAS students with hands-on, real-world experience. Guided by deep listening and care, we believe lasting change emerges through collaboration, trust, and community leadership. The Clinic supports community-driven sustainability efforts by working towards the following goals: Providing technical assistance, capacity-building, and resources for local governments, community-based organizations, and nonprofits. Strengthening and building partnerships between the university and Metro Detroit communities to improve public services and support long-term collaboration. Supporting affordable delivery of services through partnerships and research to improve quality of life.
