Job Description

Social Media Manager, Detroit Neighborhood Entrepreneurs Project

The Detroit Neighborhood Entrepreneurs Project (DNEP), based in the Ross School of Business, connects small businesses in Detroit with experienced University of Michigan faculty staff, and students, providing practical, one-on-one support to help Detroit business owners grow their ventures. DNEP does this through four programs: an Accounting program, Community Tech Consulting program, Motor City Multipliers and Impact Studio for Local Businesses.

DNEP is seeking a social media manager to work directly with DNEP and Business+Impact staff to create content and post it to DNEP’s Instagram and LinkedIn accounts in alignment with DNEP’s brand and messaging. This student will:

  • Implement DNEP’s social media calendar into SproutSocial
  • Collaborate with staff and students to develop content ideas that would amplify DNEP’s messaging
  • Edit photos and videos
  • Work with the rest of the communications team for other related duties as assigned

Hours: 6-8 hours/week (a fixed schedule will be set around your class schedule; availability on Friday mornings is a plus)

Duration: Academic year with option of continuing in summer (flexible to work around vacations/off days; no work during academic breaks or exams; willing to negotiate a later start if needed).

Work-Study: REQUIRED. Only students with work-study in this year’s financial aid packages are eligible for this position. Please do not apply if you do not have work-study.

How to apply:

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. The cover letter should explain why you would like this position, what skills or experiences you bring that would make you effective in this role, and a link to a portfolio that includes at least 5 social media content pieces you created.

Educational Value

This role will grow communication and collaboration skills, social media management and editing skills, and time management skills.

Job Requirements

Applicants must be currently enrolled students at the University of Michigan who have work-study in their financial aid packages and who have experience creating social media content. Video editing, photo editing, or photography experience is a plus.

This is a remote position, with occasional in-person meetings of DNEP student-staff.
