Job Description

Prison Creative Arts Project (PCAP) brings those impacted by the justice system together with the University of Michigan community for artistic collaboration, mutual learning, and growth. 

LSA-CARS is a University car-sharing service that provides students enrolled in community-engaged courses with U-M-owned vehicles to drive to community sites. 

We are seeking a dynamic and organized Community Engagement Assistant to join our team and take on a vital role in supporting our publicity and marketing efforts, event coordinating, and administrative responsibilities for PCAP and the LSA-CARS transportation program. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, possesses excellent communication skills, and is passionate about contributing to the success of our organization and its various initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Marketing:
Assist in developing and implementing media publicity and marketing strategies to promote community events, initiatives, and programs
Post and share PCAP events on social media and student group chats 
Create engaging video and visual content for PCAP social media
Collaborate with the marketing team to create engaging solicitations for business and allied organizations. 
Program Coordinating/Outreach: 
Plan and attend community events and engage with attendees to foster positive relationships and gather feedback.
Assist in coordinating, scheduling, and logistics for events and exhibitions.  
Help coordinate PCAP corporate sponsorship outreach and fundraising efforts
Administration:
Monitor incoming emails and serve as a liaison between the organization and the public, partners, and stakeholders by responding to inquiries with the supervisor’s oversight.
Ensure clear communication with partners, stakeholders, and community members regarding contracts, payments, and other administrative matters.
Help facilitate the LSA-CARS reservation process. Respond to questions about the LSA-CARS transportation program.
Provide administrative support as needed.

Educational Value

Students will learn about community outreach, arts administration, event planning, university/community partnerships, and the experiences of people involved in the criminal justice system.

Job Requirements
  • Must have a work-study award for fall and winter semesters. 

  • Additional experience/interest in administration, communications, community outreach, and/or clerical is preferred.

  • Experience creating content for social media is preferred

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail.

  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Canva preferred

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Must be reliable and responsible with a good attendance record. 

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Understanding of the local community and its diverse interests is beneficial.

  • Must have a driver's license 

This is a part-time position that may require occasional weekend and evening availability to support community events. The Community Engagement Assistant will play a critical role in amplifying the organization's reach and impact while fostering meaningful connections with artists and the broader community.
