Job Description

Describe the Job: The Office of Campus Sustainability (OCS) serves as a focal point for sustainable campus operations. We are a part of Planet Blue, a university-wide initiative to promote sustainability in all aspects of U-M’s operations, academics, research, student life, healthcare, and more. Learn more about our efforts at ocs.umich.edu. In this role you will primarily be working on our Sustainable Lab initiatives, including education, operations, and program expansion. Please submit a resume and cover letter for this position as one PDF. Your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to) tasks such as:

  • Operate/Assist in the Lab Swap Shop(s) as well help with other Lab Reuse Programs and events (help customers, weigh orders, answer program questions)

  • Aid in Freezer Challenge efforts by helping building an up-to-date campus freezer inventory, supporting lab scorecard completion, and assisting at outreach events 

  • Support lab energy projects on campus including lab Kill-A-Watt metering, lab freezer programs, fume hood “Shut the Sash” efforts, etc

  • Support data tracking, collection, and analysis for Sustainable Labs programming including calculating Lab Reuse Program metrics

  • Track and help implement pilot lab waste reduction programs (ice packs, small plastics, film, etc)

  • Educate students, staff, and faculty about the program at various engagement events 

  • Assist with other OCS initiatives as needed.

Job Requirements
  • Ability to communicate and work with a diverse range of people of various social, cultural, economic, and ethnic backgrounds

  • Ability to obtain MVR approval and drive university vehicle

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Attention to detail and recording observations

  • Knowledge of sustainability

  • Experience in labs preferred

  • Experience with data collection and analysis preferred 

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

Hourly Rate $17.00/hour to $19.00/hour
Hours 10.0 to 15.0 hours per week
