Job Description

The Vice Provost for Access and Opportunity department is seeking a research assistant to support the evaluation of student success initiatives within the Office of Academic Multicultural Initiatives (OAMI) and the Wolverine Pathways (WP) programs. This role plays a key part in advancing equity-driven strategies that enhance academic outcomes and overall student experience. Responsibilities include data collection, data cleaning and merging, database management, quantitative and qualitative data analysis, and report writing. The research assistant will also provide administrative and logistical support to the Research Area Specialist, ensuring the smooth operation of unit activities. Through these efforts, the research assistant will help generate insights that inform and strengthen student success efforts.

Educational Value

In this position, the student will gain data management skills, including data cleaning and documentation.  As well as experience with tools such as Qualtrics, other surveying programs, and database management tools (e.g., Excel and SPSS)

Job Requirements
This position is open only to U-M students.  Students in a social science discipline, statistics, or information science with extensive experience in quantitative and/or qualitative research would be ideal candidates. 
  • Excellent data management skills, including data cleaning and documentation.
  • Experience with Qualtrics, other surveying programs, and database management tools (especially Excel and SPSS) is ideal. 
  • Excellent attention to detail is a must.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively, autonomously, and interact effectively with various constituents. 
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and a high degree of diplomacy, discretion, and confidentiality when dealing with highly sensitive, private, and confidential information. 
  • Ability to set priorities and manage multiple assignments and deadlines while functioning flexibly and professionally. 
  • Prior experience in a research setting, including recruitment, interviewing, and fieldwork with participants, is desirable.
Hourly Rate $20.00/hour to $30.00/hour
