Job Description

General Responsibilities: As part of the Newnan Academic Advising team, Student Services Assistants support daily office operations and serve as first points of contact for students, staff, and the community at large. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

        Greeting and assisting visitors, answering phone system lines, and responding to front desk emails

        Providing information regarding academic advising, academic processes, external offices and departments, and general wayfinding

        Scheduling appointments and updating information in the online appointment system

        Assisting with office projects and other advising administration tasks as needed 

 

Educational Value

Students in this position refine their customer service and interpersonal communication skills by working directly with members of the U-M community and general public. When possible, Student Services Assistants are assigned office projects that allow them to practice and apply concepts from their courses and fields of study.

Job Requirements:

Office Hours: The Newnan Academic Advising Center business hours are 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM,  Monday - Friday.

Time Commitment and Work Schedule: Student Services Assistants can work 5 to 29 hours per week while Fall and Winter classes are in session, depending on availability and business needs.

Please provide your work availability and potential start date at the time of application. Preference will be given to candidates who can work 10 or more hours per week starting the first week of February, and those who can work afternoon or early morning shifts. 

Qualifications: 

        Strong and engaging communication skills for working with diverse visitors in person, over the phone, and by email

        Ability to manage time and balance multiple projects effectively

        Self-motivated, patient team player open to constructive feedback

Hourly Rate $15.00/hour
