Library and Archives Undergraduate Student Lead University of Michigan Spectrum Center, Student Life About Spectrum Center: Spectrum Center is a campus resource center dedicated to serving and supporting the University of Michigan community, with a focus on gender and sexuality. Founded in 1971, Spectrum Center is the first campus-based center of its kind. Through campus-wide education, research, and community building, the center staff work to enhance campus climate, increase belonging, and help students thrive. We serve and support members of the U-M's LGBTQIA2S+ communities and strive to create a campus where people of all sexualities and genders are welcome, included, and valued. About the Position: The Library and Archives Lead will be responsible for maintaining the Jim Toy Library (JTL), our Little Free Library, and other archives stewarded by the Spectrum Center. This position will develop policies related to the use and maintenance of the library and archives, as well as helping to make plans around future projects involving them. This position will also support research projects, data collection, and benchmarking for the center as needed, including supporting the communications team with historical research and providing support to anniversary or center history related events. This position will also be responsible for one to two shifts per week at the front desk in the Spectrum Center office providing support with the reception of visitors.
Job Summary/Responsibilities Library and Archive Maintenance and Development (40%) ? Maintain physical space of Jim Toy Library collection, Little Free Library, and other archival materials ? Check in with borrowers regarding overdue materials ? Develop new policies for maintenance and use of Jim Toy Library, Little Free Library, and other archival materials ? Assess library usage and make recommendations for new purchases or developments in libraries ? Develop communications and reference materials for staff to use regarding libraries Research and Communications Support (20%) ? Help maintain Spectrum Center history timeline ? Support development of educational and engaging materials for Center Awareness Day open house ? Conduct research as needed to support center projects, including traveling to archives held on North Campus ? Provide other support as needed for research, assessment, and communications All Staff Responsibilities (40%) ? Provide front desk coverage for approximately 4-6 hours per week. ? Support Spectrum Center tabling at outreach events 2-4 times per month according to need ? Attend monthly all staff meetings ? Other projects as to be defined by Office Coordinator ? Attend Spectrum Center, Student Life, and University-wide professional development opportunities |
