Job Description

The University of Michigan, School of Nursing (UMSN), Department of Systems, Leadership, and Populations seeks a Research Coordinator who will assist the Principal Investigator (PI) with her work on promoting the health and well-being of nail salon workers. This work opportunity has two major components:

  1. Analysis of individual interviews with nail salon workers regarding their experiences during COVID and current safety practices.
  2. Development of an online training module on blood-borne pathogen exposure in nail salon work.

***The Research Assistant will (1) become PEERRS certified; (2) code interview data for themes; (3) attend regular study team meetings; (4) conduct literature review to gather evidence to support training module content; (5) assist with community-engaged research activities; and (6) assist with other duties as assigned or required for research projects (6) prepare dissemination reports.

Will gain and sharpen research skills working closely with a PI/Faculty on a research project.

Job Requirements

Requirements for the job: Applicants must be available for weekly meetings and should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, & PowerPoint). The research assistant should exhibit attention to detail, an interest in research and the topic, an ability to work independently and adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines.

Supervision is received from the PI.

Necessary Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Ability to work independently
  • Candidate must have excellent communication skills, with the ability to receive and convey information clearly and concisely for various mediums.
  • Excellent computer skills, including demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products (including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Candidate must have excellent attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and organizational skills.
  • An understanding of scientific research, medical, and research terminology.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work independently with minimal supervision with diverse teams of people in a diplomatic, collaborative and effective manner.
  • Demonstrated computer skills, including expert knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated time management skills.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and conflict resolution skills with analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under time constraints and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to serve diverse populations.
Hourly Rate $15.00/hour
