Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated student with advanced bioinformatics and data engineering skills to help organize, analyze, and securely store next-generation sequencing (NGS) data generated by our Oxford Nanopore MinION device. You will develop an automated pipeline to process, align, and analyze sequences, and compile them in a searchable database using university-approved secure cloud storage solutions.

Job Requirements
  • Develop and implement a computational pipeline to process NGS data (basecalling, QC, sequence alignment, redundancy analysis).
  • Design and deploy a robust, searchable database for storing and querying biological sequences.
  • Ensure data storage and transfer comply with U-M’s data privacy and security regulations, using protected cloud environments such as Turbo Research Storage or UMich Secure Data Storage (MISSD).
  • Document all scripts, workflows, and processes for reproducibility and future training.
  • Communicate project status and assist with troubleshooting as needed.
Hourly Rate $17.00/hour
Hours 10.0 to 15.0 hours per week
