The University of Michigan Biological Station (UMBS) serves as a gathering place to learn from the natural world, advance research and education, and inspire action. Founded in 1909, UMBS supports long-term research and education through immersive, field-based courses and features state-of-the-art equipment and facilities for data collection and analysis to help any field researcher be productive. It is where students and scientists from across the globe live and work as a community to learn from the place.

UMBS is seeking 2 temporary staff members to assist with operations management for the 2025-2026 academic year in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This position will directly interface with all residents and guests of the Station. The position will run May 6 - August 31, 2026. Note: there is some flexibility in start and end dates for students.

Responsibilities include:

Serving as first point of contact for all residents and managing front office operations

Data manipulation across Google Sheets, particularly for scheduling facilities and billing

Assist in producing occupancy, reservation, and other Station use reports

Digitize and manage historic user data and summarizing for future use

Assist UMBS staff with tasks related to management of field station

General administrative tasks for the UMBS community of students, researchers, faculty, staff, and guests

Event support staff, including set-up and take-down

Educational Value

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate has good customer service skills, strong experience with Excel, and can work independently. Students are encouraged to apply.

COMPENSATION & SCHEDULE

An hourly wage of $18/hour, 35-40 hours per week. Lodging and meals are included in the compensation package.
